About Me

Person working on a wood lathe, shaping a round wooden piece.

Judy Zuckerman

I have been woodworking as a hobbyist for over 30 years! I love everything about woodworking; the smell of freshly cut wood, the planning and problem solving, the feel of a well finished piece, the intricacy of how two pieces mate. I also love to brainstorm how something I create could be the perfect, and very meaningful gift. Like when I etched grooves into a memorial piece that represented the loved one's birthday. Or like using barrel staves for the doors on a cabinet that would be home to a whiskey lover's collection.

I started Grain-Storm as an extension of this hobby that I love. Sure, it is something to keep me busy in retirement. But mostly, I want to make handcrafted, custom, beautiful pieces accessible in my community for a reasonable price. I want to work with clients to make their vision come to life, so that your creation becomes a family heirloom. That is the ultimate joy!

I have collected many fun skills and tools over the years and now have a complete woodshop in the basement of my house. In addition to my lathe, saws, drills and sanders, I have a Shaper Origin. This handheld CNC machine allows me to engrave and inlay custom designs. If you can draw it, I can engrave it. This ability to personalize pieces can really add to the ways that a client can let their creative juices flow.
